Q & A

Hi, friend! Welcome to the very first Q&A session on my blog. I asked my Instagram followers to ask me some questions. Here’s me giving my best shot on answering them.

How did you become one of the sweetest/most hilarious people I know?

Wow, this is such a sweet thing to say and I really couldn’t think of a way to twist it for a Q&A. I would sure hope that people consider me to be sweet and hilarious. I have a mid-sized friend group consisting of several amazing people whom I highly respect, and with whom I feel fully comfortable. Therefore, anyone I regularly spend time with sees my goofiest, weirdest, most sarcastic, and most serious sides. Maybe my “sweetness” would be due to my desire to show someone the kindness I believe they deserve. Well [and I’m not saying I’m the best at this], even to anyone, it’s important to show this kindness. I’ve gone through a lower time in life and I know firsthand how much of a difference it makes when someone is randomly nice to you. During one of my hardest times, my close cousin [and friend] took me out to a coffee shop, bought me a steamy caramel apple cider, and we sat in the car in the snow visiting for hours. It was one of the best things I could have done then… I needed it so bad and I didn’t even know. As far as humor, I think that stems from the same place. Throughout my life, I’ve found humor to be a way to relate to almost anyone. Maybe you not “popular” in school, but you can be funny. Maybe you can’t think of anything to talk about with a new friend, but you can tell a joke. Maybe you’re struggling with depression but you don’t want to let it drag you down, so you use humor to cope. I’m guilty of all of these, and even now I use humor to bond with others. I don’t believe it’s healthy to use this to cover up other emotions, but I do think it’s easy to keep a conversation going and easy to build a relationship with someone who can laugh with you.

What is your biggest life goal and how are you working on it right now?

What a great question! Loaded too 🙂 My biggest goal right now actually consists of several goals, so we’ll say “where do you see yourself in 5 years?” as cliché as that sounds. Within the next few years, my husband and I look forward to having accomplished several things. Fast forward 5 years… Business-wise: I’ve finished school with my Business Associate’s in Entrepreneurship. With the knowledge I’ve gained, I’m running our business. What business? Well, we’ve built a huge greenhouse and an even huger hydroponic greenhouse on our property. If you wander in, you’ll see loads of trailing vines, succulents, cacti, and seasonal blooms in the first greenhouse. A stone path embedded in the mossy ground will lead you through the jungle-forest atmosphere, and you’ll get lost in the twinkle of the fairy lights above. There might be a little area nestled in one corner where you need to nudge aside the sleepy barn cat who’s taken refuge from the sun in here so that you can sit down and read one of the dog-eared classics piled in a basket by a couple of poufy chairs. It’s hard not to fall asleep there, though, with the gurgling of the little fountain splashing into the koi pond nearby. The hydroponic greenhouse looks nothing short of “commercial” with almost pond-sized tanks containing different fishes and topped with what looks like the grocery store produce section on steroids. Here is we get all of our vegetables to eat. But of course, there are far too many for one family. That’s why we sell it to local businesses each week. The regular greenhouse is also open, and the plants there are available for purchase. Home-wise: We’ve remodeled our home, adding on to one side of it and rearranging all of the rooms in it. The old, farm-style home still shows its age, but in a subtle way. New paint, flooring, everything, give it a fresh feel and we still love to sit in our living room and gaze around at the changes we’ve worked so hard on. Per my husband’s dream from years ago, part of our house extends straight into a small greenhouse area. The indoor-outdoor feel was hard to get used to at first, but now I struggle to fall asleep without the sound of leaves rustling and my little pond fountain dripping serenely. In the back yard, we have a hot tub on a patio. We love to let our muscles relax after a long work day, whether it is summer or winter. Family-wise: God willing, we will be able to have children in the near future. So far, I haven’t been given any, but there’s still hope! If we are blessed with any little ones, we’ll surely have room for them in our home and our hearts! Health-wise: After so many years of making tiny changes, falling down, struggling to get back on track, and trying to control my cravings and gain willpower, I’ve finally managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have continued to cook at home every day and the readily available vegetables from the greenhouse have made it oh so much easier. I have finally been able to increase my upper-body strength, which was my biggest weakness in the gym. I’ve achieved my goal of being able to do handstands and pull-ups. My husband and I work out together 5 or 6 days of the week, and it’s one of our most important bonding times. How I’m Working on it: I’ve completed half the business program at a tech school nearby, so I should graduate in spring 2020. We planted a 40’x90’ garden last summer and we’re definitely LEARNING! Our huge garden is hopefully a stepping stone toward someday running our greenhouse business. And amidst my busy days packed with schoolwork and weeding, I’m slowly and surely moving up in my healthy lifestyle.

What’s your favorite insult?

How did you and your husband meet?

My husband and I met in 2014. He made a trip to my hometown in the spring of my senior year for church meetings, and there was a bonfire where I listened as he and his friends told their crazy stories about growing up. Neither of us found any interest in each other. However, in May of the same year, he visited again with his friend and was staying at his cousins’ house. I happened to be good friends with his cousins so we naturally stumbled upon each other again. The evening before my graduation day, he came to my graduation barbecue with his cousins and we chatted just a little. I found out he had just graduated with a degree in microbiology; that, dorkily enough, is what first caught my attention about him! I was planning on going to nursing school, so anything science-related was interesting to me. He then attended my graduation with his cousins, although not to my knowledge at the time. I think it was just because he had nothing better to do. That night, a small group of us girls who had graduated were invited to his cousin’s house to have a bonfire and sleep over. The guy who would later become my husband proved to be a great conversationalist, and although he wasn’t super psyched to be talking to me all night, he visited with me and quickly the words came more naturally. Probably around midnight, the lot of us decided we wanted McDonald’s so we jetted off in my little car to get fries, shakes, and whatever else. We then scurried around Walmart for a while, playing hide-n-seek among the aisles, and I’m not sure if we even bought anything. After returning to the house and the dying fire, my friends went to bed after making plans to get up and go to breakfast with the guys in the morning. It was just us two left. We didn’t want to stop talking. The hours zipped by – 3 AM, 4, 5, and then soon the sun was peeking over the mountains and our stomachs were rumbling. Puffy, sleep-deprived eyes and all, I crept into my friend’s bedroom and tried to wake the girls, telling them it was time to go eat. Nobody wanted to get up. I went back outside, and upon hearing this, he said “well, should we go eat then?” I was blown away that he wanted to go to breakfast with just me. We went along our way and ended up in a booth with orange juice, too-big omelets, and greasy hashbrowns in front of us. Struggling to keep our eyes open, we chatted lazily, cross-legged across from each other, over breakfast. And there was the beginning of this crazy relationship 🙂

Who is your favorite person to follow? Most Inspiring?

The person who has brought me the most inspiration online is Sarah’s Day. [She’s also known as Sarah’s Day on  Youtube. ]

“Act confident and no one will question you” Sarah’s one of those people that just listening to them talk, you assume that you are best friends with them. Her realness, bubbliness, and relativity draw me in and make me wish I could go to coffee with her. Anyone who follows her knows what she’d get: a long black with a dash of almond milk. Or, if you’re really good, you know it’s an LBwithaDofAM. On Instagram, Sarah shares daily tips and recipes on her stories; on her feed, she doesn’t hold back, writing in a positive, uplifting tone under her beautiful photos.

“Listen to your body” Despite being dealt a difficult hand with her body and health, she has adopted and developed an extremely healthy lifestyle, which I wholly admire. She’s used her diet to heal the most difficult situations she’s found herself in. I love that her determination ends with the most tearful, encouraging “I knew I could” moments when her holistic approach to healing defies the odds. She shows that, yes, modern medicine is effective and can be great; however, if you treat your body well and target the inner-lying cause of your ailments with a good diet and active lifestyle, you can really transform the state your body’s in. On top of that, she cured herself of precancerous cells on her cervix, regained her menstrual cycle, and fell pregnant all using natural methods!

“Do you even FASHUN?” Sarah’s also a #bossgirl, which I strive to be someday. She makes money doing what she loves. This includes her beautiful clothing line [everyday active wear – my kinda fashion!! Er… FASHUN, as she would say!], her fitness books, and her own protein balls and fruit and nut mix (“my kinda candy”).

Thanks to anyone who submitted a question to me for My Little Corner’s first Q & A! Now you’ve gotten to know me even a little bit better 🙂

Until next time,

Chara
