A Sonnet to the Sapid How shall I sugar? Let me count the ways. Crumbles atop golden butt’ry muffin, Frostings, car’mels, choc’lates, pies, crème brûlée. Nect’rous sugar, grant me your smile sacch’rine. When I am tir’d, poor, huddled, yearning to Breathe free, ard’rous sucrose, give me repose. Succor by sucker, it’d be pas-de-deux How many dulcet tidbits I’d enclose —If with no consequence on line of waist— A custard ev’ry day uncautiously, And a cupcake, to purge the bitter taste Of mistakes made yesterday. Honestly, Must I confess, I really couldn’t bear’t If cake ate I with tincture of carrot! Chara Lee, 2014 Thought I’d share a tidbit of my high school senior English 1020 class.Kind of appropriate for Valentine’s Day, if you ask me 😉Disclaimer: I don’t actually have a big sweet tooth, but man, was it an inspiring dramatic poetry topic!
